
Visitor visas
The Australian Department of Home Affairs require all persons entering Australia to hold a visa. There are different visitor visas available depending on your country of passport and the purpose of the visit. Visitor visas may be used for different purposes (holiday and tourism, family visit, business visit, short study etc.) and may be granted for different visa periods. There are a few subclasses under the visitor visa streams:
Subclass 600
Visa purpose – Temporary visit in Australia for a purpose depends on your stream.
There are 5 streams in the SC 600 Visitor Visa:
- Tourist
- Sponsored Family
- Business Visitor
- Approved Destination Status
- Frequent Traveler
Visa period – The visa may be granted for up to 12 months.
Visa eligibility and factors:
- No age limits
- No family or dependants can be included with your application
- genuinely intending to stay temporarily for the purpose for which the visa is granted for
- Having adequate funds to support yourself during the stay
- Usually no work and limited study options
- Meet Health and Character requirements
Subclass 651 (eVisitor)
Purpose – Temporary visit in Australia for a purpose depends on your circumstances.
You can be a:
- Tourist
- Business Visitor
- Visit family or friend
Stay period – The visa may be granted for up to 12 months.
Visa eligibility and factors:

- No age limit
- No family or dependants can be included with your application.
- Genuine tourism activities
- Having adequate funds to support yourself during the stay
- Usually no work and limited study options
- Meet Health and Character requirements.
Subclass 601 (Electronic Travel Authority)
Purpose – Temporary visit in Australia for a purpose depends on your circumstances.
You can be a:
- Tourism
- Business Visitor
- Visit family or friends
Stay period – The visa may be granted for up to 12 months.
